RESEARCHING IN COUNTY MAYO AND NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA

Journal by mamev1

I have concentrated my research on County Mayo because most of my family derived from there. I have two websites that are works in progress: irishhereandthere.com and kilfiancrosskin.com. Neither is complete but contain baptismal and marriage records from Ballina and Kilfian and Crossmolina parishes. I live in an area of northeastern Pennsylvania which had at one time, a disproportionate ratio of Irish-born residents or descendants as opposed to other ethnic groups. Most of the immigrant generation came from Counties Mayo and Galway and worked in the coal mines in what was once called"The Anthracite Capitol of the World." I do look-ups for the descendants of the immigrant generation who have relocated to other parts of the country. In some cases, since I keep copies of the material I have found, I have been able to connect families that have long grown apart but are not only interested in the records but are also interested in connecting with others who share the same roots.
