Richard PORT.
My great grandfather, Richard PORT (1824-1905) was born in Co. Derry Ireland and was buried in the Palmerston North City Cemetery in New Zealand.
Richard married Sarah HUGHEY (1838-1880). I don't know when and where.
My grandmother Rachel Elizabeth PORT was born in Taita, Wellington NZ. in 1868. She married James McQueen MURDOCH, born in Scotland 1870. Were they married in Palmerston North?
I know there is a big family of PORT relations around the Manawatu, NZ. However it is Richard and Sarah PORT I'm wanting information about.
I would be interested to hear any anecdotes of how and why Richard and Sarah PORT came to Taita and apparently moved to the Manawatu.
Thank you.
Beni.

Hello,Did Richard and Sarah port live in Foxton when when they first married and did they have any connection with the Brethren church? Both a port family and a Hughey family were living in Foxton( Manawatu) about this time do you think that it could be them?

Hullo Jim
Re your post on 15/7.
The Port and Hughey families are in my family tree and they were connected with the Open Brethren.
I know there are distant relatives around Palmerston North who have done huge family trees. I live in Australia and went on with other interests and never followed up on my original research.
My particular interest is anecdotes about Richard and Sarah's family early origins rather than current descendants. e.g. were they Hughenots from France perhaps?
I look forward to hearing from you.
