ROSS, Alexander and family from Ross-shire (with children settling in AUST & NZ)
I'm trying to locate firstly, the correct Alexander Ross and wife (name unknown)from Ross-shire who had twins, the female Isabella born about 1843/4 is my great grandmother and came to NZ to marry Hector McLeod from Kilmachalmag, Ross-shire. They settled in Kartigi, North Otago. The marriage and death certs have mother unnamed.
Secondly, the male twin (name unknown) settled in Australia and had a hardware/general store at the time of WW1 near the main wharf at Sydney. My great uncle visited the family in Australia when enroute with NZ troops to war. One of their descendants was an Isabella Ross at Campbelltown still living about 1982 but would have been very elderly.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Hello, yes I have seen that one on the Census for twins but am not 100% certain it was the same Isabella who was four to five years younger going by her marriage and death certs.
I have searched Scotlandspeople with the father's name of Alexander Ross and didn't find any twins around the right dates but found an Isabella born 1843 Lochbroom/father Alexander Ross and no mother's name (but still no twin).
My mother seems to think his name was either William or George, but Mum is in her late 80's now and I've just realised I put WW2 and not WW1! Another possibility is the Alexander Mackay 54 may also have been known by Ross? Thank you for your help, I wasn't expecting a reply so soon!
Regards
It might be worth while checking for the births of the twins above.
It is possible to look at the 1851 Census through Scotlands People it may give you more information it may tell you if Jane/Janet married or widow.
Does Isabella's marriage give you Alexanders occupation, Alexander Mackay was a Mason on the 1861 census.
There was a company called Ross & Bowman in Sydney who were masons and an article in Trove on a on 22 Jun 1915 "Mr Theodore Ross who is leaving for the front, was presented by the employees of Messers Ross & Bowman on Saturday with a wristlet watch.
this is his birth record
16184/1895 ROSS THEODORE D JOHN FLORENCE L RANDWICK
It could be the dame John from 1851 & 1861 Census but could be a totally different family
This is possibly his death John's death
9837/1929 ROSS JOHN ALEXANDER JANET HOLBROOK
a lot to research to connect the dots but it looks hopeful
Hi asheppard, Alexander's occupation is 'farmer'. Holbrook is 491km south-west of Sydney but checked out John's details anyway in case this info can help out someone else. John was born 14.04.1845 Eastwood, Renfrew SCT; died 29.05.1929 Australia; Wife Emily Jane White; Parents Alexander Ross/Janet Forrest.
Thank you, the hunt continues!
