Sarah Miles and John Curtis Tolliday
Sarah and John Tolliday were married in England and had two little daughters with them when they travelled to Australia in 1854 with John's family. The little girls names were Eva and Fanny
The ship British Empire left Southhampton on October 17th 1854 and arrived at Port Henry, Geelong, Victoria on January 15th 1855.
On board were John's mother Jane and siblings Elizabeth, Christiana and William and Elizabeth's husband Charles Jonas Clark and their daughter Jane.
Sarah and John had other children after they arrived in Australia.
Their names were John Robert born 1856, William Curtis born 1859, Alfred born 1860, Charles born 1862, Robert Porcher born 1865, Sarah Elizabeth born 1867, Ernest Montague born 1869, Jane Elize born 1872, Albert born 1874.
Eva died in 1874 at the age of just 20. Her brother Albert also died in 1874 at just 18 weeks old, which must have been tragic for John and Sarah.
This Tolliday family of Jane Curtis Tolliday and her four children are the beginnings of the family that now thrives in many states of Australia.
Sarah was born in England and died in 1904 at the age of 72 at Ballarat, Victoria. John was born in 1827 and died 14th August 1902 buried at Ballarat New Cemetery.
