Searching for BASTIN, Thomas

Article by 5thGenNzBastin

I have done all I can here in New Zealand.
Thomas married Martha Alice Smith here in 1886, but there is no record in New Zealand of when or where he was born. He died at Waipukurau in 1947, aged 86.
They had 9 children together.

Can anybody please help me out in any way shape or form?

I found to poss Thomas Bastin (en) births that might fit you Thomas. You would need to get the birth certs to find the parents names. Does it have his parents name(s) on either the marriage or death certs ?

From the Cyclopedia of NZ Vol 1 1897, Pg 1146:
Mr Thomas Bastin, Inspector of Works and Waterworks for the Palmerston North Borough was born in 1860 in Devonshire, England, where he was educated. Arriving in Lyttelton per ship "Cardigan Castle", in 1875, he was for a number of years engaged in surveying in Hawkes Bay, Taranaki and Weliington provincial districts, and in 1895 he was appointed to the position he now holds.
Mr Bastin was married in 1886 to a daughter of the late Mr T Smith, of Wellington, farmer, and has one son and two daughters.

His name appears on the Cardigan Castle, but with no departure date from England. So, I know how he got here, but not much more about where he came from. I'd love to know his parents, but they aren't listed on his Death Certificate, I got one Thomas Bastin's Birth Certificate sent from England but it turned out to be the wrong one. That Thomas Bastin died as a young boy!
