In the UK 1841 census we have Dowlands in Dorset born 1790- Ann and Marhaa; 1791 - John, Martha, Margaret two Mary's and Susan; 1795 - Hannah; 1796 - Charles, Harriet, John two Mary's and William : 1799 Jno and so it continues. Are any of these who you are looking for?

Hi SilverVixen,
The actual records would need to be from the 1790's. The Dowland I'm looking for is Tomas Dowland probably born in the 1770's or 80's and married Eliza Jane Watts in 1803. Sorry the post was misleading and thanks for looking!

I found this in the UK 1841 census although it has been transcribed as DEWLAND, so may or may not be him. Living at Leigh Village, Leigh, Dorset
Thomas, 70 (1771) born Dorset
Elizabeth, 65 (1776) Dorset
William, 30 (1811), Dorset
Mary, 25 (1816), Dorset
Soloman, 20 (1821), Dorset
Adam, 17 (1824) Dorset
Eve, 15 (1826) Dorset
Job, 13 ( 1828) Dorset
Mercy 10 (1831) Dorset

Cannot find either Thomas or Elizabeth in the 1851 census and looking at death records for 1841 - 1851 there are 6 Elizabeth Dowlands and 6 Thomas Dowlands that could fit the bill.

Looks like that family is Dewland, found marriages for Job & Soloman Dewland with father listed as Thomas Dewland. The only child of my Thomas & Elizabeth that might be living with them in 1841 is William Watts Dowland (1804-1851)I think I've found their son Joseph in 1841 and all other known children had left England or died by 1841.

Thanks again for searching.
