Josepha Marie incidentally married Samuel Meekan (born 1841 in Balteagh County Derry) 15/9/1874 in Dublin then immigrated to NZ that year ...
* from 1875 Samuel & Josepha had 3 children in NZ:
* 1875 - John Meekan
* 1877 - Hannah Ball Meekan
* 1882 - Latitia Connor Meekan
- after that I cannot find a death notice for Josepha but from 1892 a Samuel & Margaret Meekan had 3 children:
* 1892 - Samuel Meekan
* 1894 - 1903 James Meekan (aged 8 at Point Chevalier, son of the LATE Samuel)
* 1897 - Harry Byers Meekan (note the middle name)
Samuel was found as Meeken. He died in 1899 aged 58 (birth year as at link, 1841)
There are many Meakin dying in NZ but no Josepha
There is a Josepha Meekan dying in 1905 but aged 2 months
I suspected that the Josepha Marie above (born in 1901 and marrying Harry Shone would naturally be a child of Samuel & Josepha but she was not. She was a daughter of John & Mary Meekan, surely they were close relatives of Samuel.

RitaN on 2016-07-26 20:03:39I am researching Meekan/Kennedy families. I note that you have Josepha Marie Meekan's date of death as 1874 which should read 1974. She was half sister of my dad Norman Edward Kennedy. Mary married Alfred Kennedy after the death of her first husband John Meekan. Also John Meekan married Mary Strong NOT Stury. This should clear up the confusions.

I am a descendant of Josepha Byers older sister, Margaret Hannynton Byers, whose father was also John Jackson Byers and mother was Ann Carson Parke. Margaret was also born in Stewartstown, County Tyrone in 1839 and died in Newtown, Limavady, Northern Ireland in 1871.
I noticed Josepha's marriage announcement said she was the 5th daughter. My 2X ggrandma was one of the 5 girls which has me curious of the other siblings, both male and female. Do you have any info on other siblings in this family or any pictures dating back to this family in this timeframe. My g-grandma bears Ann Carson Parkes mothers' maiden name (Boyle) as her middle name and her daughter carries the Hannynton middle name. Interesting that they did this, but it helps with genealogy.
