Somers of Swansea, Tasmania

George Somers was born 1826 in England and he was an ex convict. He had the store at Lisdillion, Tasmania. George married Ann Davis on the 29 September 1856 in the Swansea Parish Church. Ann was born on the 21 May 1824. George and Ann lived out their lives at Lisdillon. Ann died on the 27 July 1888 from heart disease and George died on the 2 February 1909, they are both buried in the Mayfield Cemetery. They had five children:

Alice born 1854

Edwin born 1855

Matilda born 1859 died 3 March 1896 Bushy Park, Tasmania married John Jenkins on the 10 December 1877 at Swansea, Tasmania

Ellen born 1861 died 24 March 1886 Lisdillon, Swansea, Tasmania married William Bellinger on the 2 June 1879 at Lisdillon

Frank born 1863 died 29 March 1937 Queenstown, Tasmania married Christiana Elizabeth Hunn on the 30 August 1883 at the All Saints Church of England, Swansea, Tasmania (This couple is my 2 Great Grandparents)

I am also researchin the Somers, Davis family as my husband is also a direct descendant of Francis Somers who was born in 1863. I have sent you a PM but think I may have (finally) identified just WHO Ann's parents actually were. If you have too we can compare if not we can share (and discuss).

Thanks very much, I have all the ones from Quenstown and most of the other, just looking for stragglers.... I have 3,347 names on my family history to date. I am now 77 so wont be able to go much longer

aS YOU KNOW, most taswegians are interrelated, I have found this out more so since doing the family history. By the way I was a bit short on my family tree, it is 31,347 names I have, but I have gone out on all limbs.....Kingston, Rollins, Brown,Meredith, Worsley, Richardson, Batchelor,Clifford, Woolley, Reardon, Allanby just to name a few

Have you got the Tasmanian Pioneer Index, I had it but it got accidently burnt and it is $200 a CD.

Hello,just browsing the somers family as i dont know that much about them,i am a great grandaughter of frank and christiana(i actually thought her name was elizabeth christiana)my grandmother was christiana,their daughter,who married colin campbell.theyhad 10 children,8girls,2boys.i am the daughter of their youngest,malcolm.only 2are alive from the 10,rita (hobart) and bev now in orford after living in the family home for 86yrs in gormanston.i live in perth,married,3 grown up kids and 1sister in albury n.s.w. only know a bit about grt uncle oscar,just printed out his war picture today actually!would appreciate any info.thanks.jacqui.

Hi karen,thanks so much for your reply and sorry for the long delay in my reply.im not techno savvy at all and was actually just having a play with my husbands phone.anyway so pleased to have contacted a relo.ive only met a few,pauline and noeline (bevs)half a dozen times and as recent as january this year,the husband and i went over,met fred and a brother of his but cant remember his name at the picnic races,are they daphs?met uncle cols daughter prue when i was very young and thats it.not many considering theres about about 53 immediate cousins!anyway im sure you'd know dad died in 2006.i would love any info you have,i do have a bit on the campbell side that dad gave me,i think prue gave it to him after uncle col died,so if you dont have that i'd be happy to send it to you.i dont have an email but hubby does so we will drop you a line soon.bye for now jacqui (jacquita)
