STADLER of Michigan and Ohio

Journal by stadlgi

The STADLERS came from Germany in the 1850s. Originally settling or
moving through Milwaukee, WI then on to the Upper Peninsula of Michi-
gan. We lose the track there and first names become rare, except for
my grandfather whose name was Franklin (Frank) STADLER. My name is
Gilbert Lewis Stadler, Jr. but I may in fact actualy be the VIII.
Some Morman records show the name in England in the 1560s with the
same exact name. Coincidence? Don't know yet. My eldest son is legally
the III (jokingly referred to as 'G3').

I digress. Franklin married my grandmother Margaret GLATZ in 1927 or
1928. She was also originally of the UP Michigan as well. They appar- ently went south to Lorain County, Ohio, perhaps the jobs were better
there at that time. He must have been some rebel or blacksheep as my
grandmother was disowned or somehow found disfavor with her family
who were prominent. Franklin was killed in a motorcycle accident
around July, 1928 in Medina County, Ohio 6 months before my father was born. Where exactly in Medina County the accident occurred is a
mystery. Medina County is not small and is rural mostly. You would
think records of an early motorcycle accident would be easy to find,
after all, how many motorcycles were there in 1928 in the US?

There are some old photographs, but they don't help much as not much
is written on the backs and they are in a shoebox. One of the photos
shows some women at an amusement park near the gate. On the gate is
the name "Electric Park". Presumeably this was near Detroit. No year
is shown, but they were all young.

My mother currently lives in Medina County, Ohio. I live in Summit
County (just east of Medina).

Trying to find information on the GLATZ family of Upper Michigan for
starters. It appears they came from Bavaria sometime in the 1850s.
