RESOULTE PASSENGER LIST
Sailed Glasgow 14 March 1865 ~ Arrived Auckland 21 June
The clipper Resolute, a full-rigged ship of 1,072 tons, commanded by Captain Wallace, was American built and chartered by the Patrick Henderson Co., to bring out passengers and general cargo.
On 14 March 1865, the Resolute sailed from Glasgow for Auckland.
Daily Southern Cross, 22 June 1865
ARRIVAL OF THE RESOLUTE
The clipper ship |Resolute", Captain Wallace, from the Clyde, anchored off Rangitoto, at 8 o'clock last evening, after a passage of 98 days from leaving the Clyde, with 354 immigrants, being the last of those sent out by Captain Daldy for settlement in this province.
The Resolute left the Clyde on the 14th March last, parting with pilot the same evening and lost sight of land by the north channel on the 16th of same months. Passed outside the Cape de Verdes, after experiencing a heavy westerly gale which lasted four or five days and sustaining pretty considerable damage to the ship in consequence of the violence of the gale about the channel and before passing the Cape de Verde. Afterwards experienced favourable weather until crossing the equator, which was done on the 9th of April, in 28 west. Had SSE to SSW winds at this time, with but slight trades. Passed the meridian of the Cape on the 11th May and the meridian of Greenwich on the 4th May, experiencing during that time easterly winds. Ran down easting between 41 and 46, with wind invariably from the easterly direction at the time. Slighted Tasmania on the 11th instant and made the Three Kings on Sunday last, the 18th, with light wind from SE to SW down the coast until arriving off Rangitoto after sundown last evening. Spoke only a to a Dutch barque, with troops on board fro Amsterdam during the passage, in the SE trades.
There were 9 births and 7 deaths, with one premature birth and one still-born during the passage. The passengers are in medical charge of Mr Campbell, M.D., who reports all in a healthy state, with no sickness of a serious nature during the passage, the deaths being confined to weakly infants.
There was likewise a marriage on board the ship between two passengers named SAMUEL HOLT & IDA TIMPERLEY, who were joined in the bonds of wedlock by Captain Wallace, in the presence of a large assemblage of the passengers.
The immigrants, who were the last to arrive on account of the General Government, number 692 statute adults, a good number of whom are females in charge of Mrs Ann Palmer, matron.
On casting anchor, a congratulatory address was presented to the captain by the passengers, as well as a testimonial to the surgeon of the vessel (Dr Campbell) and the schoolmaster (Mr Reid), Mr Thomas Peacock (optician), Mrs Thomas Peacock, Messrs D. and Alexander Brown (dyers) and Mr Proud (iron and brass founder).
NOTE Remember, the ages of passengers on the immigration lists were/are very unreliable, they often changed their ages to comply with immigration regulations. Ages in brackets are nearer to real age.

Wanganui Chronicle, 29 Jan 1874 JUVENILE THIEVES At the Thames Police Court recently four juvenile thieves were brought up charged with stealing the copper off Souter's battery and also with stealing metal, consisting of doors of the battery, boxes and false bottoms. Two of the boys named Michael Conroy and Henry Huckstep, each about 14 years of age ere sentenced to three days imprisonment and a whipping. The other two boys were Adam Morrow, aged 13 and Bernard Morrow, aged 9. These were each sentenced to three days imprisonment and at the termination of that sentence, the former was ordered to be sent to the Industrial School for three years and the latter for five years. There is, says a local paper, rather a sad history connected with these boys. A short time ago their elder brother, who was the chief support of the family, enlisted in the Navy Militia Corps. This preyed upon the mind of his mother, a widow woman and she became insane and was recently committed to the Asylum. These two lads, the two younger ones, were thus left without any protection except that bestowed by another brother, who is employed at Lempriere's brewery. He undertook the support of the two youngest children, but from the nature of his employment he was unable to see after the other two, who have therefore been left to themselves.

.. Mary Ann Quillan was born in Afhaberg, County Down, Norther Ireland. She married Christopher Tiernan/Tierney, also from Ireland, in Ball Green, Strathaven, Avondale, Scotland 19 July 1862 .. Read her bio here .. She died on 28 Oct 1921 in Tararu, Thames on the Coromandel Peninsula. She was 83 years old and had given birth to 12 children. None of her four sons left any children of their own, so the Tierney/Tiernan name did not thrive in the new country. The girls produced many children and grandchildren so Mary Ann's genes and, therefore, those of her parents Charles McQuillan and Ellen Doran remain in their descendants in New Zealand to this very day.

Williamson, Charlotte aged 30 (1834- sister of Mrs Jessie Herbert, see above)
- Charlotte married Captain Thomas Hudson, a widower, who had also been a passenger on The Resolute. Their marriage, 31 Dec 1867, was the first marriage at The Waima Wesleyan Chapel. The witnesses were Joseph Herbert, Shoe Maker, Hokianga and A. Chapman, Shipwright, Hokianga. Thomas and Charlotte purchased land at Taheke and built the Taheke Hotel. Taheke Post office opened 1 Jan 1879, with Thomas Hudson as Post Master, when he accepted the duties of receiving and dispatching the settler’s mail per the coach which came by Taheke from Kaikohe, each week. Mail also came in by boat once a week from Rawene. Thomas is shown as owning the Hotel in 1880. He died in Auckland, where he had been taken for better medical treatment, on 10 July 1883. Charlotte is known to have leased out the hotel for some years as there are letters asking for the rent. She is still shown as Proprietress in 1890-1891. It is known that her niece Alexandrina came out from Scotland and helped her in the Hotel and Joseph Nisbet Herbert, her nephew, is shown as the Post Master at Taheke, from 1 June 1889 until 1 Feb 1896. Joseph is shown as Store Keeper in the 1896-97 Directory and on his marriage certificate. Another nephew, Thomas Herbert, is shown in The Wise’s Directory as being a Saddler in Taheke. It is thought that in later years Charlotte also owned and operated a Millinery Shop in Queen Street, Auckland.
