Thomas Faulkner -- 2nd Son of William Faulkner

Journal by SLF

Thomas Faulkner (1655-1709), son of John Faulkner, Sr. and Elizabeth Filmer, was an ancestor of William C. Faulkner of Oxford, MS. His wife's name was Margery Ann. Today I found a family history that lists her last name as STEWART, the daughter of Nelson Ryan Stewart (1640-?) and Pamela Hamilton. Our Nathan, born 1775 in South Carolina, is said to have married Mildred Stewart, daughter of John Stewart (1738-1818) and Susannah Fulkerson. I do not know if this is the same Stewart family but I think it is worth looking into.

Thomas and Margery Ann's children are:
1. John (1678-1727)
2. Thomas, Jr. (1685-1708)
3. Benjamin (1688-1728)
4. Abraham (1695-1770)
5. Isaac (1699-1751)
.
Isaac is the name of Our Nathan's son. Maybe just another coincidence but worth looking into.

Son #1, John, was born 1678 in Kent County, Maryland and died 1727 in Queen Anne's County, Maryland. In 1700, he married Sarah Elizabeth Ford (or Forde) and they had 8 children.
1. John (1703-1767)
2. Francis (1704-1783)
3. Thomas (1707-?)
4. Temperance (1708-?)
5. James (1710-1778)
6. William Joseph (1714-1807)--ancestor of William C. Faulkner of Oxford, MS.
7. Emanuel (1718-1798)
8. Ann (1712-?)

Son #2, Francis, was born 10 May 1704, Andover, Essex, MD. He died in Anson County, NC in 1783. He married Caroline Huntley and they had 8 children. Corporal Burton Francis Falconer (husband of Temperance) and Private John Rakes (husband of Ann Faulkner) were his brothers-in-law. All of his sons would be the right age to be the father of Our Nathan. One of his sons is named Nathan (1745-1827). Nathan has a son, Archibald (1770-1842), that was born in Edgefield county, SC. Archibald is the right age to be the older brother of Our Nathan, born 1775 in Edgefield county, SC.

So, it is just coincidence that the Faulkner family and the Stewart family have been acquainted since the mid-1600's, the Faulkner family of Maryland and the Fortner family of South Carolina both have an Isaac, and that Archibald Faulkner is born in 1770 in Edgefield, SC and Nathan Fortner is born 1775 in Edgefield, SC.? Maybe it is, but it deserves a further look.
