The differences between our Thomas's is 24 years the common denominator is Martha SINCOCK she married one of them.

Also I noticed you you have Frederick William as married to Constance DIKE the marriage index says she married William Frederick need to look at rolls to confirm.

I found Martha's death notice;
The Argus Sat 28 Feb. 1920.

SHUTTLEW0RTH.-On the 22nd February, at the Williamstown Hospital, Martha Shuttleworth, beloved mother of George, James, Fred, and Tom, aged 62 years.

ok after searching a few sources my belief is Thomas SHUTTLEWORTH 1856-1949 did marry Emma Jane LYE.
I doubt he married Martha SINCOCK. So all those trees I looked at are wrong. It pays to research and add sources.
Just a few more things to look at first but I think I'll be taking SINCOCK off here.

THERE I mean not here. SEE I'm cross-eyed. even started typing shuttlecock a few times.

Thanks Jan,

I'm still not convinced - I'll keep digging around too. I'm thinking we have uncovered another Thomas SHUTTLEWORTH family with your LYE connection.

I've just noticed that in Tonkin's journal regarding SHUTTLEWORTH marriages in Victoria he has listed two Thomas'

Thomas Richard SHUTTLEWORTH m. Mary Brown in 1860

Thomas SHUTTLEWORTH m. Martha SINCOCK in 1878

I'm just wondering now if the two Thomas' I've listed above are different Thomas' - I was pretty sure they were one and the same - now nothing is clear (yep i'm cross eyed too)

The death notice you found above seems to fit for Martha as it could be their middle names being used.

I think your right Jan - the Martha SINCOCK marriage is not correct for the Thomas in my tree - He was born in 1849 in Collingwood as you said in your first comment - too many years difference. I still believe it fits that the Thomas in our family tree married Mary BROWN.

So yes the Martha SINCOCK connection needs to be removed from here - thanks for helping to clear that up.

I was just having a look at your journal and I'm a bit confused about a few things.

To start with I do not think the Thomas 'Richard' SHUTTLEWORTH married to Mary BROWN in 1860 is the same Thomas SHUTTLEWORTH married to Martha SINCOCK in 1878.

Let's have a quick look at things. Thomas 'Richard' SHUTTLEWORTH and Mary BROWN had their last child in 1878.

We now have a marriage for Thomas SHUTTLEWORTH and Martha SINCOCK in 1878.

This would mean that Thomas remarried in the same year his first wife had their last child ... thinking!

Another little thing I picked up in the birth records was that the Thomas married to Martha SINCOCK was named as Thomas 'Simpson' SHUTTLEWORTH in the birth records for one of their children.

Hope this may help you decide on how you will continue with your research. It's never easy.

Thanks for that Tonkin - much clearer! three heads are better than one for this one.. I believe my Thomas to be Thomas Richard SHUTTLEWORTH

Off i go with some more research in that direction - thanks again for your help guys.
