I am searching for Thomas Tomkins RYDER born circa 1800 mentioned in consular despatches from Fiji as being an American from New York State. He boarded the salem brig "Mermaid" in 1837 at Tahiti bound for Fiji where he settled. Prior to that I cannot find any trace of him
