to Kathleen re: John and William Cole, Tuscaloosa, Ala

Journal by mgerloff

William and Martha are burided in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery just east of Tuscaloosa toward Birmingham. I have visted their graves. Then I learned that William's mother, Jane Dorroh, and his father, John Cole, are probably buried there too. I have a lot of history on the Dorroh line, looks like John Cole came from Laurens SC, and before several lines of Coles were from Baltimore, MD.

Twenty Southern Families has some good information. I have heard that David Cole, died in 1856, also buried in Tuscaloosa, and was the son of John, had a terrible temper. After his father's death, he and younger brother Isaac were appointed joint administrators of the large estate. Isaac shot and killed brother David, when he came upon him throwing hot boiling water in the face of a black woman, don't know if she was a slave or not. Then the entire family, quickly moved to northern Lousiana, Uncle Isaac even took David's widow Clarissa, and all of David's chidren with him to La. He is my direct line.

I would like to trade information with you. I am not retired yet, so have little time this year.
