Joseph was baptised by W A Dawson in Chasewater, Cornwall, in 1837, and was the son of John TONKIN and Ann ROWE. Joseph's parents were married in Kenwyn, Cornwall in 1836. Witnesses to the marriage were John ROWE and Thomas TONKIN.

Joseph possibly arrived in Melbourne on the Golden Era in 1856, aged 20 years.

Catherine died 1914 in Carlton, Victoria.
Age: 76 years.
Parents named as Thomas BONDS and Catherine ANGROVE.
