Bio

I love local history beginning with the Native Americans and before the Black Hawk War in the summer of 1832, through the Civil War, the Rock Island Arsenal and river navigation.

I'm a novice taphophile: cemeteries, grave markers, burial customs, etc.

My Bawden family came from Redruth, Cornwall, England, as miners and blacksmiths, and settled in a town that was surrounded by mines...coal mostly... My 4th great-grandfather owned a mining manufacturing company in Cornwall (Sawanee Mining Mfg Co) and it is not known who convinced him to come to Rockingham with his family. His neighbors were from England.

I have developed an interest in the Cornish miner's way of life, and I've been to Mineral Point, Wisconsin, for their annual Cornish weekend. The Bawdens came from Redruth and the surname as it's spelled was seated in Redruth; and Mineral Point is sistered with Redruth as the largest population from Redruth.

I've become the family storyteller and you'll often get more info than you wanted. I have a published family gene study from 1986 that was a real travesty. This book has led me to righting the wrongs of the previous story-teller.

I love big dogs, community cultural events, and writing. We've had a Weimie, German shepherds, American bulldog, English bulldog, boxer, and a wheaten terrier...they don't shed.
