When i first started doing my genealogy research I only had pen and paper to correspond and record with. On going back over these papers I have discovered a letter from a Thomas KILBRIDGE also known as Thomas BRIDGEMAN. He mentions that often the KILBRIDGE name was used as BRIDGEMAN. Can anyone help me in regards to this family

My grandfather is James Philip BRIDGEMAN. Even though he spelt it this way he often said that there should be no "e" in the name.
He did not share much of his family history with his children. He came to New Zealand from co. Limerick, Ireland supposedly with his father Michael BRIDGMAN leaving his mother Anastasia nee AMBROSE and other siblings behind. They may have come via Australia before 1915 as James joined up with the NZ Army from 1915 to 1917 as a private. His unit was the Otago Infantry Battalion. He was shipped to Suez Aug 1915 but hospitalised shortly after with debility. After seven months he rejoined his unit and was sent to France. While he was there he was wounded in action by being shot in the upper arm. He was sent to England for treatment and convalescence. He returned to NZ January 1917 and discharged in Jume 1917. He was awarded the following medals; 1914-15 star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
His family in Ireland lived in Finnoe Townland at the 1901 census but had gone by 1911.
James siblings were Thomas J, Robert J, Mary Ann, Bridget who may have married a man with the surname of PASSOTTI, and Edward.
James was born 24 May 1895, married Olive Clarice WILSON 17 Aug 1927, Waipukarau, Wairarapa, New Zealand and had five children.

John BRIDGEMAN married Christina in the early 1400's in England. They had one known child but there may be others.
Agnes was that child and she married Richard WARNEFORD before 1417 in England. Richard WARNEFORD was born 1386 and died 1468 at Sevenhampton, Wiltshire, England

William THOMAS died before 1848. It is not known where he died or where he is buried. He came to NZ as a whaler and married a Maori woman by the name of Aamai. There was one child born from this union who was Harry TAMATI. It is thought that William may have had two other wives.
William was whaling in the South Island around Banks Peninsula area.
Harry's name differed from time to time depending on who wrote it and being of Maori descent his name was said in various ways.
Harry was used or said as Hare, Henare,
His surname was used or said as TAMATI, THOMAS
There were varying uses of both ways his full name was used so his first name may have been as a Maori name with an English surname and vice versa.

My WILSON line begins with my grandmother; Olive Clarice born 1903, Auckland, New Zealand. She married James Philip BRIDGEMAN 1927, Waipukarua, New Zealand. Olive had a sister Florence Irene who married Ledestin James de CLIFFORD and had five children.
Olive and Florence's parents were Francis WILSON and Amelia Jane WARNEFORD. They married in 1899.
Francis had a twin sister, Ellen. They were born 19 Jan 1870, Mt Roskill, Auckland, New Zealand.
Their parents were Thomas WILSON and Ellen WALLACE.

As well as doing research on my own side of my parents I have also done my childrens grandparents on their fathers side. This one is of the BALDWIN family.

Walter Herbert BALDWIN born c 1872 married Alice WOOD in 1895 in Kent, England. Alice was born c 1870, New Hythe, Kent, England.
They had four children, Edith Florence, William Arthur John, Robert Charles (great grandfather)and Elizabeth Alice (Bette). All were born in England.

I am still to locate when they came out to New Zealand so keep watching this space for more information

William Arthur John (Bill) married Myrtle PENN in 1927, Wanganui, New Zealand and had six children
Robert Charles married Lucy Julia HARRIS1924,Wanganui, New Zealand and had five children. (Great grandparents)
Elizabeth Alice married Rio James MARTIN 1928, Wanganui, New Zealand and had three children

Robert Charles (great grandfather) and Lucy's five children were;
Alicy Lucy married Bernard Thorald WARNER 1950, Wanganui, New Zealand and had three children (grandfather)
Margaret Nancy born 1927 died 1936
Lucy married James BAXTER 1949, Wanganui and had seven children
Robert Charles married Doreen Louisa McCARTHY 1954, Foxton, New Zealand 1954 and had four children
Grace Florence married Maurice Leonard STANFORD 1950, and had four children

William ATTAYATE is my 16th great grandfather. He had a son named John born about 1340, South Denchworth, Berkshire, England.
The name now changes to YATE as his son was named William of Charney YATE BORN 1375, Charney, Berkshire, England. The name carries on down with the female lines being ASHENDON, HYDE, and then a Susan YATE marries John WARNEFORD. The year is 1534

As part of my Warneford research the above name comes into it. William ASHENDON had a daughter Joan or Johann born about 1460, Longworth, Berkshire, England. She died 7 Mar 1499 in Berkshire, England aged 38 yrs. She married Esq. Richard of Charney YATE in 1489. They had 8 children who were Lord Esq. John, Andrew, Bartholomew, Ann, Edmond, Margaret, Elizabeth, and Maude. My line comes down off Lord Esq. John YATE. I am keen to look back further to find more information on the family of William ASHENDON

My AMBROSE research starts with my 2nd great grandfather(Thomas AMBROSE) in Ireland. His daughter Anastasia (my great grandmother) married Michael BRIDGMAN in 1889, Newcastle, Co. Limerick, Ireland. They were married by R J Ambrose. Further information on these people will be very much appreciated.
