Posting issues on Family Tree Circles
I wrote, "Louisiana Surnames" no less than four times before it finally posted. I checked two areas for posting: Global Posting: Family Surname Research, and two Personal Catagories: Lousiana and News and also added the surname list to the list of surnames that the post pertains to and it would not post. The message "Journal Entry 0" popped up, however, when I did not utilize two areas in either Global or Personal Catagories and then did not list the surnames this post pertained to, the message finally posted. I wonder what is the glitch?
I emailed Scott and Ally Cat to see if they have an answer.

I am researching my creole ancestors from southeastern louisiana. From where they derived was Plaquemines Parish (Pointe a la Hache or Pointe Coupee ?), but they did move to Orleans Parish around 1880.
I have looked high and low for info on Wm. F. Perry who joined the infantry for La. during the Civil War. He apparently was born in Maryland, but was residing in New Orleans during the war. He enlisted at Camp Moore in 1861 and I do have from Footnote.com and family (verbal) history the battles he was in, including Gettysburg where he was severely wounded (he had an arm amputation after that battle). But what I am trying to find is why he was in N.O. since he was from Maryland and whom his parents were (both listed as from MD. in census info he gave in years after the war). He for some reason moved to Columbus, Georgia after the Civil War. Here he worked as a clerk in a dry goods store and married in 1870 to a Mittie Bussey (I know through fam history as Mattie Elizabeth Bussey). I am searching for any info or family out there with a history of Perrys from Md. to Louisiana. Thanks for any info.

St. Michaels Cemetery
St. Martin de Tours Church to Repossess St. Michael Cemetery Spaces!
St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville is in search of descendants of some of its cemetery?s oldest residents.
Debbie Hebert, bookkeeper and cemetery administrator for the church, said several plots in the church?s cemetery are either abandoned, in disrepair or have never been issued a title and the church is following the proper procedures to notify family members before other action is taken.
The Louisiana Cemetery Board governs the operations of cemeteries in the state and requires that for a period of 25 years, a list of these funeral plots must be published in a local newspaper in an effort to notify family members of their maintenance needs and current states.
The church also is required to send a registered letter to the last known family contact.
After the required attempts to contact decedents have been met, the cemetery authority is allowed to transfer ownership of the gravesites.
Stanley LeBlanc, born in New Iberia and currently living in Dallas, is concerned about disturbing these historic final resting places.
Heavily involved with a similar issue at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Patoutville, LeBlanc, who is an authority on the Teche Area?s genealogy, said it is a gray area and the church should proceed with a great deal of care and caution.
One of LeBlanc?s main concerns is the difficulty in finding descendants two or three generations down a family line who may be unaware of ancestor names or where the final resting place of their ancestors might be.
Leblanc said many of the surnames printed on the St. Michael?s Cemetery list are of those families that were original settlers in the area and their burial sites represent a great deal of rich history.

GenCircles Merges with MyHeritage
by Steve, Sunday, December 23, 2007
Pearl Street Software, maker of GenCircles and Family Tree Legends, has merged with MyHeritage.com, recently named one of the best genealogy Websites of the year 2007 by Family Tree Magazine. The first move from this merger is that Family Tree Legends (a genealogy software) and GenCircles have been made 100% free!
The merger is also bringing the "Smart Matching" technology free for GenCircles and MyHeritage users. Smart Matching is a specialized genealogy technology developed by Pearl Street Software and further advanced by MyHeritage, to connect family trees. It works by comparing millions of names, facts and tree connections - intelligently. When two family trees are connected, both their owners are informed, and benefit from the opportunity to collaborate and learn from each other.
They advanced the Smart Matching technology into what they call, "Smart Matching 2.0", which covers spelling and phonetic variations, understands nicknames and name synonyms and deals better with ethnic variations.
