READ PAGE A for information on what this posting is about.
Auckland Council provided Native Affairs with the names of the 1800 people but, as you will see at the above link, they do not contain any ages or other identifiable info, which is why I have expanded the list here to help you recognise any possible ancestors. Each and every person has been individually researched; using BDM, Papers Past, the cemetery database, family trees or any other means which revealed some of the names (spelling) or dates, differ slightly from the list - this is pointed out on each.
. NOTES .
* lack of time means I have not looked for all maiden names, nor to link all parents or partners, but will come back to edit from time to time.
* same surnames grouped together does not necessarily mean they were related.
* dates could be of death or burial
* my edits & additions will be obvious
* further info may be found Waikumete Cemetery on Find A Grave

* same surnames grouped together does not necessarily mean they were related.

* further info may be found Waikumete Cemetery on Find A Grave

about her father . Sydney Morning Herald, 27 March 1926: Mr Moors, then an impressionable young man of 21 years of age, paid a business visit to Apia in 1875 and fell in love, as so many others have done, with the strange exotic beauty of the place. His business compelled him to return lo the United States, but he had left his heart in Samoa. Less than three years later found him back. He married a Samoan lady.
From a modest beginning as a trader Mr Moors enterprises extended till he had stores and plantations all over the group. He was in partnership with Mr Grevsmuhl in the early eighties, at Matafele and, upon the partnership being dissolved, he established himself in Apia and his business grew.
With his great friend, the late Robert Louis Stevenson and Mr R. H. Carruthers, began the cultivation of cacao, in a commercial way. Previous to this the now defunct concern that used to be called the D. H. and P. G., had planted a small area and these early efforts laid the foundation of the planting era.
He merged his interests into a limited liability company, which amalgamated with O. F. Nelson and Company, Ltd., Mr Nelson, who is one of Mr Moors sons-in- law, being the managing director.
his death notice 1926 The late Mr Moors was a merchant and had a large business at Apia, which has been established for many years. He was a frequent visitor to Sydney where he was also very well known. He was a personal friend of the late Robert Louis Stevenson and was author of the book entitled "With Stevenson In Samoa". Mr Moors settled In Samoa In 1879, having come from the United States. He was about 72 years of age.

Auckland Star, 6 Oct 1941 CAPTAIN H. R. HUGHES - Master Mariner. A retired master mariner, with an unsurpassed record of submarine cable work in the Pacific, Captain Harry Rockford Hughes, died yesterday at his home in St Heliers. Aged 66, Captain Hughes was born in Worcestershire and served his apprenticeship in sail for some years, including the Boer War period, when he was a junior officer in the Union Castle Line, between British ports and South Africa. In 1903 he joined the marine staff of the Pacific Cable Board as fourth officer of the cable ship lris, which had just been built to the board’s order for repair and maintenance work. He with the vessel continuously for nearly 30 years, eventually becoming her commander. He retired in 1932. During his long service, Captain Hughes established a very high reputation as an expert in laying and repairing cables. He carried on this work in Australian, New Zealand, Polynesian, and Canadian waters, often under conditions which tested the skill and endurance of the ship’s company to the utmost and he was called upon frequently to undertake repairs to cable in Cook Strait for the New Zealand Government. Among shipmasters, he was known as an extraordinarily skilful navigator and he accomplished many remarkable feats, quickly locating cable faults at points far distant from land. When the Iris was armed and sent out from Auckland in the last war to search for Count von Luckner, who had escaped from internment on Motuihi Island, Captain Hughes was in command of the shore party at the Kermadec Islands where the Germans were recaptured. Later the Iris was renamed the Recorder, and passed to the ownership of Cable and Wireless Ltd, which no longer operates here from Auckland. After his retirement Captain Hughes did a large amount of coastal pilotage work for overseas shipping companies.
Captain Hughes is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son, Flight-Lieutenant S W. R. Hughes, Royal Air Force
