Wallaceburg,Ontario

Journal by Cor

In 1878 that was where my great grandfather was born. He moved to Central Lake, MI in 1900 as a lumberjack. In 1905 he married Harriett Murphy of Echo Township,MI. He moved to Charlevoix,MI in 1923 farming 40 acres in Antrim county during the summer and working the woods in the winters. He later worked at Loeb farms. He had three sons:
Gordon born in Ridgetown,Ontario
Harold of Charlevoix County
Carl who died in 1956.

Amos Mile Towsley was my great grandfather. He died in 1969. My great grandmother, Harriett lived until 1990 ( born in 1885!! You do the math!!!).

I am searching for Amos' parents and siblings. I have always been told there were hard feelings in the family because he moved to the USA. I have never been able to find a name or birth certificate...

I'm related to your family of Towsleys. Amos was my grandfather Roy Towsley's uncle. My grandfather was from Ridgetown, Ont.

well, hello, it's nice to meet another family member!! Yes, my grandfather would talk about his time at his grandparents in Ridgetown. Do you have any family tree information?

Hi, glad we finally connected. Yes, I have some more info. Issac and Nancy (Siver) Towsley were the parents of your ggrandfather Amos, my ggf Lewis, also George Adam(1869-1898) and Saphroina (1869-1946). My mom remembers going with her parents in the fifties to visit Uncle Am and Aunt Hattie in Charlevoix. My gf Roy (and possibly his sister Grace)lived with Uncle Am and went to school there after his mother died in the early 1900's. Lewis met and married his 2nd wife around there, Dorinda Somerville and had 3 more children. It seems that Amos and Lewis (and the Somervilles) travel back and forth between Michigan and Ridgetown often, according to the border crossings on ancestry.com. I guess that was where the work was. I haven't be able to find any more info on Isaac as of yet, he doesn't seem to be in any census records. Don't know why, as I have records of him having 4 kids between 1866-1878. I just found Nancy's family in Kent County. She was born in 1844 in New York State and her parents are Adam (1803-1872) and Susan ?(1811-1872) both born in New York State and died in Kent County.

My mom remembers her dad talking about his grandfather's family and would go any further back after mentioning something about Wapole Island (a First Nations reserve around Wallaceburg) but I haven't found any info to confirm this.

My mom also remembers your gf brother Gordon Amos that lived in Ridgetown and his son Gerald.

As for interest sake, we have a yearly Lewis Towsley family reunion usually around Rigetown that's been going on for over 50 years.

Would love to hear of your line and any info that your gf remembered. My email address is gwena64@gmail.com

Thanks
Gwen
