WALTER KING Methven New Zealand.

Journal by capers49

Has anyone ever heard of WALTER KING and family from METHVEN NZ around 1866 Was the father of my GGF and he was born there. Have a death Cert(that i ordered) for a Walter died 4 Aug 1916 Westport, all the dates add up, but according to the cert he only had a daughter, not a son, but seeing as he died of senility, he could have been confused. Anyone out there, know of any King's around that way. Thanks Carol

maybe a little more about Walter could help others:

Walter was Private #29 when he served with the H.M. 40th Regiment (1850-1870) and is on the New Zealand Medal Roll

12 August 1916 - An old resident of Westport, Mr Walter King, a Crimean veteran, seventy-eight years of age, passed away at Westport this week. Deceased, besides seeing service in the Crimean War, served with the 40th Foot Regt. in the New Zealand War. He was greatly respected by all who knew him. A military funeral was accorded deceased yesterday

My grandfather was JOHN KING, born 1866, METHVEN, that is all I have on him. he went to Australia met his wife MARY McKENZIE (still working on tracing her) went to Tasmania, had my grandfather LESLIE EDWARD RICHARD and then moved back to NZ and went to Wellington.

Still trying to trace WALTER, he was a farmer in Methven.. Only name on son Johns death cert is Walter, no mother and occupation farmer. He wasnt the soldier from Sudbury who died 12 Aug 1916, any more hints on how to find him. Thanks Carol

I have a Walter George born 1868 don't have much on him except his parents were Charles King and Agnes Curle the emigrated in 1850 so Walter would have been born here I also have a Walter that was my grandmother's brother they lived in the Conway Kaikoura area

Thank you for your reply. I started this thread in 2013. and I still haven't advanced any more with WALTER KING. Have all of JOHN KINGS dates B 1866 Methven, thats on his death cert. and father as WALTER. Have got the one Ngaire mentioned death cert and he only had a daughter, The one you mention would to born to late as John was born 1866. Im going down the line now maybe he was Edward Walter and came from scotland. Any help still appreciated. Thanks Carol.
