Wardle, Bell, Smith, Clarke, Sitch Marriages around 1860-1885
My brickwall is finding the marriage of Edward William James Wardle (born in 1866)to Emma(Emily Peters) Whose mother was How(howell. Emma was born illegitimate by her mother Hannah Peters in March in Aldenham, Hoddeson. She died in Uxbridge in October 1920. There ia an Emilar Paters that appears to marry a James Oliver all the christian names tally but all the surnames make no sense.
Edward Wardle was born in Marylebone London and spent pretty well his whole life there moving from lodging to lodging house. He was a Plasterer by trade. His father was a william Wardle and Harriet Brown NEE Smith. Harriet was illiterate. William was a painter by trade he may of done glazing also.
Allegedly Edward had a son Arthur William Hammond Wardle born in 1877, I would like to know where the Hammond came from.
Also Willam Wardle may of maried a Clara/Charlotte Bell at some time 1860-1865?
We think Edward would of married about 1882-1885.
Emma Peters appears in the 1881 Census with as the name of Peters she married a Stephen sitch in 1879. She may of had a son Charles Sitch? born around the time of her marriage.

I have Edward Wardles(Wardell) birth cert .
Born 7 Dec 1865 Marylebone, london. Parents William and Harriet. Edwards wife was Emma. Emmas mother maiden name was Hannah Peters. Emmas mother married an Issac HOW/E. When Emma had Arthur William Hammond he was a PETERS in the 1881 Census. In the 1891 Census Emma and Edward are together as the Wardle family. Emma Peters was born in 1862 in Hoddeson. I beleive if they married it was after 1881 and before 1885.
I have searched Free BMD with all combinations and permutations, any suggestions would be helpful. Myself and others have almost given up looking.
He did father a child by another when he was married but to who I was never told.
Best regards
Alan
The family with George Robert is Edwards family.
George wardle died about aged 5 . He suffered from bad burns while in his cot.
Strange that Minnie who is Amelia has a birthday of 14 Feb 1895. I have a certificate. I actually knew her.
Can I ask a question how did you come to the conclusion that Emma Peters the How/e is Emma's mother do you have documents etc.
In both 1891 & 1901 she listed as born Hertfordshire?
Interesting that Amelia's birth date on her Baptism is recorded as 12 Jan 1895 which is a month earlier than the certifcate you have.
On the Amelia's birth certificate does it list her mother as Emma Peters??
I did find something interesting during my search

Harriet, Mrs Wardle (Widow) married Walter Henry Doyle in April 1885
I can't find any marriage for them in any year, nor a census. I did find Walter Henry Doyle in Kilburn 11 Oct 1908, aged 25 Father Walter Omnibus Driver deceased. In 1911 Census he is 29, born Paddington, Corporate Carman. In 1901 Census Walter Henry, b1858 Somers Town London, he is a patient in hospital in Hendon, Occ: Horsekeeper and there is a death for a Walter Doyle 42? in Hendon in June 1901.
It is strange about Amelias baptism and birth dates,
Her mothet is listed as E. Wardle on the cert in Kensington 32 st georges road. I have a school record for Walter which for some reason says he wad born 25 Mar 1885. He's living at 1 Malvern gardens. Edwards mothet in law was a Crouch.
Edwatds mother is shown as Nee Brown.
I did a bit more digging and found this marriage

so it looks like both Emma Peters and Stephen Sitch found new partners but were never divorced so there were never any new marriages for them.
I've searched every site that I can and have found no record of any other marriage for Emma Peters and Stephen Sitch.
On 1911 Census looks like Sarah Elizabeth has died Stephen is listed as Widow and it is noted that they had 10 children 7 living 3 deceased.
possibly her death

I couldn't find birth or death's for Violet Lilian Sitch bap 1882 nor for Charles Sitch bap 1882, and no sign of Charles Sitch b Mar 1881, Bap July 1881 after 1881 Census.
I have possible marriages for Emily/Emma.

Many thanks

There is another for an Edward Clarke and Emma How I think
I have a letter from one of Edwards daughters, Ellen/Nell who says Edward and Emma were born in the same year. My grandfather says he's a year older than his birth cert states!!!
There is a lottie hammond wardle born Sept 1876 6a 733. Maybe one of Edwards along with Arthur William Hammond Wardle. Dec 1878. She appears to marry in South America from searches I've done. At one stage Arthur hammond wardle was in an orphanage in 1881 run by an American lady. I've lost the details. It was in london.
I fpund a wiliam Browns who's grandad wad a Hammond.
Still doesn`t explain why Arthur was with Emma peters. He is dumped in 81 then is radmitted to the family moves up North and marries. is with . My geuss is Edward was 2 timing his alleged 2 wives.

I can't find any reference to an orphanage for Arthur Hammond Wardle or Peters in 1881 only the Census with his mother Emma Sitch.
Do you think you could find the papers?
Sorry it might of been 1891. The hammond part wasn't included when I found it. Should of saved the search. I'll have a look.
All I can remember was an American Citizen was in charge a woman. He may of been Sitch or Peters. I think it was 1881.
Best regards
