Where is the John H Barnes family in 1860 Ohio?

Question by LorenK

My greatgrandmother Catherine (b NY 1846) was 14 in 1860. She was the daughter of John Haddock Barnes (born Milton, NY 1825) and Margaret Cotter (born Ontario 1821 to 1825). I cannot find any evidence of Catherine's family in Ohio at that time. She had 3 younger brothers that were born in Ohio, starting in 1855. All other siblings were born in NY between 1846 and 1854. There are records of her father and brother Maurice Ray enlisting in the Union Army in Cincinnati in 1861 and Directory listings of John H Barnes in Cincinnati in 1862. I have searched 1860 Federal censuses attached to al her family members and nothing comes up (have even looked in Canada) what am I overlooking? Was there even an 1860 census? I can't even find her uncles and aunts.

Started out simply enough, but more answers led to more questions. Family surnames: Hoffman (from PA), Barnes (from CT to NY to the Midwest and beyond) and Myers from Glanworth, Ireland to Minneapolis, MN

Thank you 'noggin'
The information you graciously supplied was pretty much the info that I did have. It's information regarding the Barnes' on the 1860 Federal census that has been elusive. I have found census documents from 1830 to 1900 (for all decades except 1860). JH and his first wife, Margaret had 9 children. He and his 2nd wife Victorine had 3.
Thank you for responding so quickly.
