I have many Whittle ancestors born in Dorset after 1800. Most were born in Wareham but others in Piddletrenthide,Longham and a black sheep in Southampton, Hants. They were farmers, butchers and publicans mostly. Some emigrated to Canada and one to Australia. Three died in WW1 and are listed on a war memorial in Wareham. Quite a few moved to Essex from Dorset.

The original Dorset Whittle (my great Great grandfather) was born in Barton St David, Somerset in 1818 and moved to Wareham around 1840 where he married Jane Roberts Richards.
