Who are the parents, grandparents, place & date of birth of Hugo Grotius Sheridan?
Unable to find any proof of any of the above.
One of his diary entries says his birth was September 22, 1768 at 9am. However, it does not say where or mention any parents. Genealogy records need to be accurate. I, along with many researchers have found absolutely nothing in his name until he shows up in SC about 1809.
None of the schools he is reported to have attended have any record of him. In reviewing some of his diary records, I do believe he had medical training. Where was it and under what name?
Legend is he was fluent in several languages. That tells me he was born, raised & educated in Europe.
Most online genealogy records list his parents as James Plunket Sheridan and Rebecca Sheen. Ireland Marriage License Index for 1770-1858 shows they received their marriage license in 1775. That's 7 years after his birth.
James Plunket Sheridan (1724-1803) is always listed as son of Thomas Sheridan(1687-1738). According to The Irish Genealogist, Vol 3, No 7 of October 1962, he was the son of Richard Sheridan (1718-1787). Have not found any record of James Plunket Sheridan being in the US. He died in Dublin, Ireland.

Thank you for your response.
I have his life well documented after he arrived in SC about 1809. There were 3 Hugo Grotius Sheridan's, all in his family.
It's the 40+ years BEFORE his arrival in SC in 1809 I cannot document. My conclusion is he had a different name.
