William Early moved from Ireland to England during the 1950's. He was officially traced and found to be living in Kilburn, West London during 1957/8.

At this time he was working for Taylor Woodrow on the construction of Northfleet Power Station in Kent and used the Tibury to Gravesend ferry to get to and from work. On the way home William and his friend Tim would go for an evening drink in the bar of the Ship Hotel, which is opposite the main Tilbury railway station in Essex. It was during his visits to the Ship Hotel that he met my mother Jean, who lived and worked there.
