PAINFULLY SUDDEN DEATH.
MR. D. WILLIAMS DROPS IN THE STREET.
The death of Mr. David Williams, an old
and respected resident, occurred yesterday
morning under shockingly sudden circumstances
the deceased, who was apparently in his usual
state of health, left his home in Bridge-street
shortly after 10 o'clock yesterday morning in company
with his wife with the object of attending St. Andrew's
church. They walked along Bull street, but when opposite
the Town Hall, Mr. Williams. without any warning whatever,
fell to the ground. Several passers-by were quickly at the
spot, amongst them being Constable Scholes, and Dr. Green
as promptly summoned by telephone. The doctor
quickly arrived, but found life to be extinct,
death having occurred from heart failure A
few months ago Dr. Atkinson was for some
time treating the deceased for a heart affection.
The matter was report to the coronor (.Mr. E. N. Moore, P.M.),
who deemed it unnecessary to hold an inquest, and
gave an order for burial. The deceased who was 65
years of age on Saturday Iast arrived at
Melbourne from Wales in 1853. He straight
way went to the gold diggings at Ballarat but
soon afterwards came to Bendigo where he
resided up till the time of his death. After
spending a few years here he married the
widow of the late George Jalland. and subse-
quently erected a shop in Hargreaves street,
in which he for about 35 years conducted a
saddlery business, only relinquishing that bus
iness about six years ago. The premises
are now used by a son. Mr. W. L. Williams,
as a pharmacy. He subsequently opened in
Williamson street, next to the Independent
office, where he continued until a few weeks
ago. A wife and grown-up family— five sons
and three daughters — are left to mourn their
loss. The funeral will take place this morn
ing at I11o'clock, when the remains will be
interred in the Bendigo cemetery.
