My great grandfather was Robert Wilson and my grandfather was William the eldest child of Robert and Lydia born 1871 at Mt Kembla.
I have a birth certificate for William Stafford b 1864 in Liverpool England.But I don't have a birth certificate for Robert Wilson.
My father William Henry Wilson was their 5th child b 1902.
I was surprised also that he was born in Northern Ireland.

I have photos of Robert Wilson and William Wilson if you would like them.
In the census of 1900-1901 William is listed as living in American Creek and is a blacksmith.
In the electoral roll at Yass he is listed as blacksmith and he worked on the Burrinjuck Dam.
There was an obituary in the Yass courier dated August 1936.

So good to hear from you Sarajane. I would love to have photos of Robert and William. My husband, Peter, is also Robert's Great grandson, his grandfather being Cecil Edward, born in 1888. With 12 children, there must be Wilsons all over Australia and that would be another exciting search. I'm new to this forum, so how do we share photos and documents? The reason that I am fairly certain that Robert was born in Northern Ireland, is that both his death certificate and the passenger list says he was born in Feglish, Irvinestown and we have traced that to Northern Ireland. The passenger list is from the ship Sirocco, which arrived in Sydney on 3 October 1864, having left Plymouth on 18 June, 1864. Other family members have gone through the church records in Northern Ireland, but they haven't found a birth or baptism record. I'd like to have a look myself but wasn't able to arrange for this the last time we were there, which was in October 2019.

My mother's maiden name was also Wilson she lived in Kiama and was no relation. Her grandparents were Robert and Maryann Wilson from Fermanagh in northern Ireland. They came out on the 'Telegraph'arriving in Sydney 3/2/1858.

That would be great, Sara Jane. I will also try to do that with some documents I have. By the way, American Creek was what Mt Kembla was called in the early days. If you are able to visit Mt Kembla, you will see the family grave in the Church of England Cemetery on Cordeaux Rd. There are a number of family members buried there, starting with Robert Wilson and Lydia Stafford, his wife. There is a large monument in the middle of the plot and it is not far from the road.There is a lot to know about the Wilson history in Mt Kembla.
