Wimsatt of St. Mary's County, Maryland

Journal by dwinsatt

I have been doing family research for quite a few years.
The Wimsatt family who was in St. Mary's County, Maryland in the 1700s is my Father's Lineage.
I do have a lot of data for this group, but not a lot of stories.
The one thing I am missing is specifics of where the Wimsatts originated and who was the first to cross into the New World.
There is a great deal of speculation but nothing has been proven.

I look forward to collaborating with those who have or are looking for information about this family.

Here is my lineage as I have researched at this point.

Father: Bradley Russell Winsatt + Darlene Rose Hamby (divorced)
GFather: Lorenzo Willie Wimsatt changed to Otto Winsatt + Ida Carrie Vogt
GGFather: Lorenzo Dow Wimsatt + Margaret Ellen Gilkey
GGGFather: Lloyd Wimsatt + Susan Parish
GGGGFather: Felix Wimsatt + Sarah Medcalf
GGGGGFather: Ignatius Wimsatt + Mary Mills Medley
GGGGGGFather: Richard Wimsatt + Theresa Ford
GGGGGGGFather: Richard Wimsatt + Katherine O’Bryan

Surnames: WIMSATT WIMSETT WINSETT

Hello! I am a Wimsatt descendant. I do know who my 3x great grandparents are John Wimsett and Catherine Harruff married one franklin county Ohio in 1808. They settled in Vermillion County Indiana early 1820’s. I am trying to identify John’s parents. Although I do not have proof yet, I am leaning that he was the son of Robert Bennett Wimsatt and Dorothy Abell. I believe this Robert was also a son of Richard and Theresa.

Nancy,

I went to Ancestry because I could not find a Catherine Harruff.

They have a KATHERINE HERREFF that married John Gerrard Wimsett.
Then I found them in my spreadsheet.
I have the follwing:
His parents were John Baptist Wimsett and Sarah Howard.
His parents were John Wimsatt and Henrietta Bradburn.
His parents were John Wimsatt and Ann Meakins.
His parents were Richard Wimsatt and Catherine O'Bryan.

Hello. I am a Wimsatt descendant. My ancestor was Tabitha Wimsatt that married Enoch Drury Sr. My research says her father was James Wimsatt 1735-1790 married Elizabeth Booth, but I can not find any other info farther back from that. I would love any assistance anyone here may be able to come up with. Thank you. If there is anything anyone needs that I may have, please let me know. I have a lot of different family lines that come from St. Mary's County, Baltimore, Anne Arundel County, etc.

Hello! From one Wimsatt cousin to another! I am still researching my Wimsatt/Wimsett line that originated in Maryland. My siblings and I have all done the ancestry dna. We match to one Drury descendant. This dna match is a descendant of Catherine Wimsatt and Bernard Drury.
