He was a native of Norway, where he was brought up to the trade of a cabinetmaker with his father. He came to New Zealand in 1870, per ship ?Selina,? from London, and settled in Palmerston North, there being at that time but one single house within the boundaries of the present borough. Mr. Bergersen turned his attention to engineering work on arrival in the Colony. The business was founded by the present proprietor in 1886. The premises, which are freehold, include a wooden building of one story, containing over 1300 square feet of floorage space. A water moter of two-and-a-half-horse-power drives the lathes (of which there are two), boring, emery, punching, shearing, and other machines. Mr. Bergersen makes models for patents, and all kinds of agricultural implements and machines are made or repaired to order on the premises
