I have been researching for about 12 years. I was born in southern Ontario and have lived in British Columbia for about 40 years. I am married with 3 grown children.
I began researching after a work related accident and I needed to fill in some time. I knew some information on my Young family so began the search for facts. Turns out I have a very interesting family and they have been in North America since 1710 when Dewalt Theobald Jung arrived in New York aboard the "Lydia" from England. He was of German descent moving from the Palatine region of Germany. He arrived in New York Hudson River area but soon moved on into the Mohawk Valley with his wife Marie Schneider. Their children Adam(Johann) was born in Stone Arabia along with his brothers John, Henry, David, Abraham and Elizabeth.
During the American Revolution Adam Jung (Young)and his brothers remained loyal to King George and Britain. Before the revolution his father and family had purchased vast acres (1400) of land along the Kyle on the Schoharie River. After much turmoil during the revolution the Young family escaped into the Niagara area. The area was a wilderness so suffered much hardship, loss of land that had been confiscated and sometimes nearly losing their lives.
Adam had a trading post, a potash works and a very active farm with cattle and pigs while in New York state. For his losses King George granted him and his family a tract of land in Ontario along the Grand River to compensate for the losses and remaining loyal.
My family live to this day along the banks of the Grand River and enjoy the freedoms Adam fought so hard to obtain.
