. Lance-Sergeant in the 58th Regiment. He died of wounds received in the Battle at Boulcott Farm His funeral was in the original St Paul's Church and he was reported to have been buried here at Bolton Street, with full military honours. There is no record of his burial in the cemetery records. In 1923 a memorial to him and the others who died as a result of the battle was found in the chapel and taken to Lower Hutt to be added to the memorial on the corner of Military Rd and High St, but instead it was set up at St James Churchyard, Lower Hutt, destroyed in the 1940s and replaced by a plaque still in the St James Churchyard.

* Headstone reads: In loving memory of Richard Giles Knight, who fell asleep on 13 August 1917, aged 76. Alice Watson Knight, relict of the above, died 21 June 1924, aged 60, interred at Karori. Esther Elizabeth Knight, who fell asleep June 1882, aged 47. "In the higher rock I am trusting, restful, peaceful, saved and free". And of Johnnie, her son, aged 3 years, "Of such is the kingdom of heaven". Also of Alice Maria, daughter, who fell asleep 4 July 1931, aged 32.

Two known children; Betty Stratton Izard (+Davis 1922-2022) & Charles Hayward Stratton Izard (1825-2002). In 1935 he was an Orchardist in South Rd., Henderson. He died 25 June 1946 and his ashes were scattered in Eucalyptus Glade, Waikumete.
