Bio

Interested in finding out about my Irish DUFF forebears, where they came from and who they were. How long had this Duff line been in Ireland? I can't get back further than the mid-1800s. Patrick DUFF, my great-grandfather, spent most of his life in and around Limerick City. The DUFF name is not common in south-western Ireland, so where did they come from originally? Who were Patrick's parents? Did he have any siblings?

Also researching my mother's family name, MURISON, originally from the parishes of Gamrie and Alvah in the Scottish county of Banffshire. James MORISON/MURISON (c1690-c1760) was a crofter at Crossford (Cross-Slacks) in the early 1700s and the family remained in the area until the late 1800s. In 1872, a MURISON family left Alvah for Canada and settled in Elgin County, in the province of Ontario. From there they gradually spread out to Manitoba and British Columbia. Members of the GARROW family of Banffshire married into the MURISON family and also ended up in Elgin County.
