Gustav Egler born 1858 in Germany and his wife Louisa born 1861 in Germany came to the Dakota territory in 1884 with two young sons August born 1883 in Germany and Hiendrich born 1882 in Germany. They were only in the Dakota Territory a brief while and had a son Oscar Egler there in 1885. Little is known of them until 1888 when Louisa Egler is granted a divorce in Milwaukee, WI on grounds of adultry. At this point I lose track of Louisa and don't find Oscar until he marries in 1908 in Cook County, IL
Gustav Egler is found in 1889 marrying Pauline Huge in Hillsboro, Jefferson County, MO. Gustav settles in St. Louis and fathers Emma Egler and Carrie Egler. I am most anxious to learn more about this family and locate photos if available.

In 1908 Oscar Egler born 1885 in the Dakota Territory marries Mathilda Louise Lenz, ethnic German, born 1888 in Russian held Poland, they were married in Cook Co.,IL. In the 1930 census Oscar is listed as being married to Augusta (Pomeranz) Egler. I have never been able to locate a marriage license and I don't believe Oscar and Augusta had any children. I also am not able to find a divorce decree for Oscar and Matilda Louise. I'm wondering if Oscar and Augusta had a common law marriage.
Oscar Egler died 4 Sept 1955 and both he and Augusta are buried in Waldheim Cemetery, Forest Park, Cook County, IL. I am most anxious to learn more about Oscar Egler, Matilda Louise Lenz Egler and Augusta Pomeranz Egler. Also of great interest is finding photos of these family members. Thank you

I am researching the family of Oscar Egler born 1885 in the Dakota Territory (now North Dakota) and died 1955 in Cook County, IL. Oscar first married Matilda Louise Lenz born 1888 in Germany and died 1972 in Melrose Park, Cook Co.,IL. At the time of her death, Louise was residing with her daughter Marjorie Egler Kuhlman. Marjorie born 1918 in Cook Co., Il married Fredrick A. Kuhlman in 1950. The couple resided in Melrose Park, IL, Marjorie died in 1999 and Fred died in 2002. The Kuhlmans had a son Steven who I would very much like to contact in regard to the Egler/Lenz family history. Thank you

I am researching the Poppenhagen family only in as much as it is connected to the Lenz family of Skokie, IL. Martha Lenz,an ethnic German born in Russian held Poland in 1894 daughter of Fredriech Lenz and Martha Tabor married Charles Poppenhagen and they lived in Skokie. Charles died in 1938. I don't believe they had any children but I'm hoping a more complete history and picture of her might exist.
Martha was a sister of Fred Lenz who was also an ethnic German born in Russian held Poland in 1883.

Interesting to note that a Martha L. Poppenhagen died 18 Feb. 1977 in Falls, Texas. Texas is where Martha's social security card was issued in 1966.
Wisconsin death index gives name and date but no city or county. Also of note is Chicago Tribune obituary was dated 23 Feb 1977.
Was her body shipped to Wisconsin and then to Skokie, IL for burial

I am researching this family only in as much as it is connected to the Fred Lenz family of Skokie, IL. Louise Lenz, daughter of Fred Lenz and Louise Voth married Henry Aronson. I don't believe they had any children but I'm hoping a more complete history and picture of her might exist.

I am researching the descendents of Albert P. Thompson who was born 1827 in Washington County, PA the son of William Thompson and Ann Wallace. Albert married Rachel Malinda Crago born 1831 in Green County, PA. They removed to Ohio where they owned land in Noble and Monroe County. Rachel and Albert had thirteen children of whom ten lived to adulthood, married and had children of their own. Their children and grandchildren lived in the Ohio counties of Noble, Monroe, Guernsey, Washington, Summit and Athens and in West Virginia in Jackson, Wood, and Wirt counties.
Any information that you would like to pass on to me about the descendents will be appreciated, if you have pictures you would like to share, that would be terrific. If you are a descendent and have questions, I would love to hear from and share information with you.

The Mekkelsen Family
Nils Mekkelsen (born 19 October 1870 and died 21 May 1943) and Maren Munsen AKA Monsen ( born 21 January 1875 and died September 1967) both grew up in Norway but neither knew each other before coming to America.
Arriving in America circa 1891 Maren took a domestic position on an estate in Concord, Massachusetts. She was unable to speak or read English, and at some point she taught herself these important skills. It was on this estate she met Nils Mekkelsen.
Nils was employed as a teamster on the estate, tending the horses and wagons. Later he worked as a conductor on the Boston streetcars.
After Maren and Nils were married 2 April 1895 they lived in Concord and Somerville, Massachusetts. They had five children: Daisy (born 1895), Martin (born 30 August 1896) and Maurice (born 1904), Ellen (born 1907), and Doris (born 1910). They lived in Somerville until the early 1930s when they built the family home on Newport Street, Arlington, Massachusetts.
John Mekkelsen was born April 13, 1923 in Somerville, Massachusetts to Marion Billings Mekkelsen and Martin Mekkelsen. He was the youngest of three boys. His mother Marion Billings ( born 18 August 1897 in Dorchester, Massachusetts )was of Irish descent, she died 23 August 1928. His father was a musician who played trumpet professionally. In the 1950s he was the stationary engineer for the city of Waltham, Massachusetts . Martin died March 1967 in Waltham, Massachusetts.
When World War II broke out, John, or Jack as he was known to his friends, joined the Army and landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France on D-Day plus-one. He was a truck driver and hauled men and material in the combat zone. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant and spent the latter part of 1944 at Fletcher Army Hospital in Cambridge, Ohio, recuperating from an injury received during his European service. Jack recovered from his injury quickly and was known to sing with the base band that entertained the servicemen.
While a patient at Fletcher Hospital Jack met Betty Smock, (born 3 September 1927 in Columbus, Ohio and died 17 October 2006). Betty was a telephone operator at Fletcher Hospital. Betty and Jack were married 1 February 1945 in Cambridge, Ohio, they had three children.

I am seeking to learn more about Shelton Dickerson born 1854 in Ohio the son of Greenberry Dickerson and Alice Unknown. Greenberry was born 1818 in Delaware and was a Civil War veteran having fought with the Co. H. 77th Ohio Infantry.
Shelton Dickerson married Martha A. Hardesty on 21 July 1881 in Noble County, Ohio. Shelton and Martha had a daughter Carrie Bell born 11 Jun 1881 and according to Martha's obituary in 1945 there was also a son which I have no other record of.
1880 is the last census that Shelton Dickerson is recorded in, when did he die and where is he buried? When he lived in Washington County, Ohio he is with his family in Watertown. I have looked at burials that are listed online for this area and cannot locate him or his father. His father Greenberry Dickerson is in the 1890 Veteran Census still living in Watertown.
Martha Hardesty was born 1858 in Ohio the daughter of Thorton Fleming Hardesty and Elizabeth Antill. Sometime after the 1900 census she married Hanson Pepper of Noble County, Ohio. I am also looking for any information about the marriage of Hanson and Martha. Hanson died 27 Sept 1904, place of burial is unknown. Hanson was the son of Minos Pepper and was first married to Naomi Farley. I am most interested in any connections between the Hanson Pepper and Martha (Hardesty) Dickerson.
I have recently learned that Martha Hardesty Dickerson married Hanson Peppers on 18 Sept 1901 in Noble County, Ohio. I am still seeking an other information available on this couple.
Since I originally posted this journal I have learned that Shelton Dickerson died 12 Oct 1888 in Waterford Twp., Washington Co., Ohio, I still do not know where he is buried. I also learned that his father Greenbury Dickerson died 5 Apr 1893 in Waterford Twp., Washington Co., Ohio, his burial place remains unknown.
