How/Where do I find shipping between Plymouth, U.K. to San Francisco, or New York U.S.A. between 1865 and 1870?

I am searching for Thomas ROBERTS born abt 1857, Cornwall, United Kingdom. He married Clara JULIAN, born abt 1852 St Austell, Cornwall, UK. They had a son Silvanus ROBERTS born Grass Valley,Nevada County, California, b.19 May 1870. Can't find any record of their marriage, was it in the United Kingdom or in the USA as Clara was only about 17 at the time OF Silvanus'birth. Thomas, Clara and Silvanus left the US to come to Christchurch, New Zealand between 1870 and 1873 as that was when the next child was born in New Zealand.
Does anyone have any knowledge about this family? Was Clara travelling to San Francisco with her parents and met Thomas on the ship?
Grass Valley was settled by mostly Cornish and Italian miners.
Please help!

I have now found that the year that Silvanus was born was 1875 not 1870 and they would have left The USA between 1878 - 1880
