I'm a descendant of Mathew and Isabella via Elizabeth Ann Fitton who married Walter Haycock. My grandmother was Ivy Elizabeth Butler, nee Haycock.

I have some information from John Alexander Christie's book, based on his research. While there may be some discrepancies, as some dates clash in births and deaths of listed children I have the following:

James Fitton born 24 July 1873 Little River, died 23 July 1947

Joseph Arthur Fitton born 22 December 1890 Beaconsfield, Manawatu, died 4 July 1961.

Margaret Eleanor Fitton born 18 July 1881, Beaconsfield, died 24 May 1967.

George Fitton b 22 May 1885, little River, died 23 Dec 1885 Fielding and buried in Fielding cemetery.

Matthew Fitton born 27 June 1883, died 27 June 1883.

Annie Fitton born 27 Jan 1887 Beaconsfield, died 9 Feb 1887, died at Beaconsfield and buried on the farm.

Isabell Fitton born 22 December 1887, Beaconsfield, died 5 Feb 1888, at Beaconsfield and buried on the farm.

To begin with I thought these dates clashed, but it is possible she could have had another child in the same year. Poor woman!

And more:

Charles Fitton 14 April 1808, died 20 December 1886 Governors Bay Canterbury. Charles is shown on the Electoral Roll of 1853 as being a quarryman of Hemingford, governors Bay.

I have a copy of a letter written to Isabella in 1886 by her aunt, soon after Jessie and George died of diphtheria.

Perhaps I could send some reports via email, and scan any relevant info you might like?

Hope you see this post, as I see the last message was left in Aug 2012. How do we know if there is a message do we have to check in regularly. I have a lot of info as I have done my tree on Ancestry. I have lots of photos. and am in touch with cousins in Levin.

Charles & Elizabeth are my Gt Gt Grandparents..

I come down through Joseph who was born 23 Oct 1855 in Parnassus Hurunui, Canterbury, died 6 May 1934 at Paraparaumu, Kapiti.

His son Harold Joseph Fitton born 7 Oct 1893 at Otaki Wellington died 6 July 1965 in Paraparaumu.

His son David Harold Fitton born 3 June 1928 died 18 Sep 2016 in Whakatane.

And me Raewyn Margaret Fitton born 12 November 1954.

Can't believe I have found more relatives. I have Aubrey MacDonald Fittons Book "The Fighting Fittons" He gave to my father. I have found a few indescrepencies in it but have overcome them.
Can I contact you some other way, I don't quite understand this site yet.. I will end here in case you don't get this message.

Are you in Fielding, I want to come down and visit Annie & Isabella's resting place at Beaconsfield under the Oak Tree.

If you haven't already got more info I can fill you in on everyone of mathews Children, grandchildren and I have photos.
I notice there are a few wrong dates on your death dates of Charles and Elizabeth's children.

I have found Elizabeth Fitton born Baskerville parents. She vanished and no one knew where to, I have filled in the missing gap on there trees, she had a very interesting background.

I would so love to meet you as there is a lot we can do together on the family..

Hello,
Matthew and Isabella had 12 children.
Elizabeth(Lizzie) Haycock, James, Edwin, Clara Jaggard, George, Margaret Phyn, Matthew, Charles, Anne, Isabell(died infant) and Joseph.
I come down from Clara and Margaret. Two of Claras sons (Percy Jaggard and Richard Jaggard) had Bruce and Audrey who then had my parents , and Margaret Fitton (Phyn) is mother to Little Maggie Phyn who married Richard Jaggard having Audrey who had my mum. Bruce Jaggard had my father.
I have a lot of information here and am slowly going through it.
I want to find more on the Phyn family which comes in a few times.
