I have been told he arrived on the ship 'Margaret' the 3 December 1831. The same ship as General BOURKE arrived on. The 'Margaret left London on the 24 July and besides BOURKE and other dignitaries it carried 40 other persons from Cork.
He had been born in Cork and died on either the the 23 February or the 4th March 1841 ( it was a Thursday night) with Constable SCOTT at Dry Creek outside the Elmshall Inn. Their cart overturned. There was an inquest. Inquest notes will give you details.
He was married to Jane MEHEGAN 1806-1862
He chased and captured the bushranger 'Gypsy' Clarke in 1840

We know nearly all about Patrick from when we was appointed CPC in 1838, Marrying Jane 1838 up until his death 23 Feb 1841. Constable Scott gave evidence at the inquest on how the accident happened. What we do know for sure about his arrival is that he went to purchase 4 blocks of land at Queanbeyan and on one of the official documents dated 1840. Patrick says he is a FREE man and came to the colony with the late governor. No ship & no date of when. We can presume that it may have been Gov. Bourke on the Margaret. I have emailed to quite a few people to try and find if there is a passenger list of the Margaret 1831 or if he brought out soldiers with him. I have picked up a Patrick Kinsella in the 40th Foot Reg. born abt 1792 Wicklow. The 40th Foot Regiment was in NSW for a number of years & left in 1828 for India. So ????? If you can find his name on a shipping list then I would be sure he came out with Gov. Bourke. Patrick is my wife's 3 x g/grandfather & the 1st Chief Police Constable appointed at what is now known as Queanbeyan. The Queanbeyan police would love to know more about Patrick for their own family history.Can you tell me where you read the "Margaret " carried 40 other passengers from Cork & saying he was born in Cork. I've never seen a record for that particular voyage of the Margaret.

Does it mention his arrival on his Intestate Estate Case Papers?

The shipping agents for the Margaret which was available for freight and passenger charter, was Dawes, Gore & Co of Pitt St, Sydney.

Molonglo is right next door to Queanbeyan. The Molonglo River.

G'day Janilye and Banjo, I too am interested in Patrick Kinsela but have hit the same brick wall as you.
The note on the land application actuall says "I arrived on the same ship as the late Governor" By this I assume that he was referring to Bourke who had arrived on the Margaret in 1931 but had just been replace by Darling.
ACT historian Errol Lea Scarlett says that the reference to Patrick being buried at Molonglo is incorect; that he was buried in the Riverside Cemetry at Queanbeyan. Source ELS notes in Kinsela family History file Queanbeyan libary
Incidently I guess you know that Jane Mehegan arrived in 1835 under the name MRs Jane Wigmore and married Patrick under this name.
