thanks to Peter for this message 19 July 2011:

... Hi, many thanls for your response and family details. Just a bit more infomation re John (Jack) Hussey. He was acting manager of the "Wanganui Chronicle" where he worked as a lad and later on after having lived in Sydney for several years returned and joined the commercial staff of the "Wanganui Herald. His wife's sister Hattie (Harriet) Vine was a qualified solicitor (we understand the 1st women to qualify in NZ) worked for the legal firm of Treadwell & Gordon in Wanganui. Hattie was a great friend of my Grandmother Florence Forward.

from the site: Treadwell Gordon (formerly Barnicoat, Treadwell & Gordon) ... The firm has employed many identities on its staff over the years, one such being Miss Harriet Vine, one of the first woman Solicitors to work in private practice in New Zealand. Other well known names are Hector Christie and Bob Barton, each of whom later established their own practices in the City. Some Law Clerks well remembered include Jim Treadwell, Lionel (Weka) Wood, Fos Fraser, George Brown, Hau Hiroti, Norman Reid, Don Murchie and Alan Deere

In 1916 John Hussey had a house built in Matai Street Castlecliff. That house is still there today.

You don't happen to have a photo of that house do you??

I know some sections fronting Matai Street, Castlecliff, went up for auction in August/September 1916 as "splendid building sections, in the most popular neighbourhood" and a 6 roomed house went for ?350 (equivalent in 2011 to $44,000)

I can supply photos and a pdf of the original title deed if you like. I'll message you my email address.
