Wildey and Butler families
Did a search this evening forBenjiman Milton Wildey as this is one of my ancestors. What surprise to find a convict in th family. His daughter Sarah Monroe Wildey is my g.grandmother.
And also to find a greatly enlarged Wildey family from the few I had found. Does anyone know what he was convicted and sent to Tasmania for or is that an area for more research ?
Also what happened to his first wife? Did she die or another area to search? I had been told that Benjiman and Catherine had met on the boat and her family was opposed to the marriage.
Also am looking for information on my Butler side of the family.
Michael Butler born Co Limmerick circ1840 died 22/7/1923 interesting it states on his death certificate they were married in Victoria.
Parents unknown
Mary Fitzpatrick born Co Clare circ 1834 died13/4/1912. On her dead certificate it states they were married in Dunedin.
Her parents were Terence Fitzpatrick and Catherine Fitzpatrick (Murray)
Their marriage Certificate states they were of full age when married on 2/8/1872 they were both Roman Catholic.
Family stories say they were married in Australia. But the facts don't seem to support this?
Did they come to New Zealand via Australia directly from Ireland? Where they also convicts?
Not sure where Togo from here.
The people all mentioned are buried in Dunedin..
