ANY information for EDWIN BEN VIRKLER

Query by Rosiet

This is my grandfather. He disappeared just prior to April 8, 1919 from Cleveland, Ohio. I made a promise to my mother to continue her search for him. April 8 was the day she was born - the last of 6 kids. Her father was a chauffeur - a mechanic - ... The 6 kids were never allowed to know what happened? One day he was there - the next he was not.

I only know he was born in UPSTATE NY ?????? 11-Aug-1885 We were told (for what it is worth) that he was born with name of LUCAS - Edwin Ben LUCAS - I assume - and somewhere along the line his mother married a man named VIRKLER and his name became VIRKLER to be the same as his siblings.

thank you

U.S., Adjutant General Military Records, 1631-1976
Name: Edward B Virkler
Report Year: 1903
Service State: Ohio

According to this record a Edwin B Vickler enlisted as a private on the 7th April 1903 for 5 years.

fro the: Muster Roll- Company F, Fifth Regiment Infantry O.N.G.

Living in England I do not know how easy it is to look at someones USA military records. I image he would have had to give his parents names in case of death. It might worth getting hold of the records to find next of kin and where he was born.

The Edward / Edwin thing has been almost as bad as Harty / Hardy I found the draft record and that was the first I ever saw Ben. I have spent innumerable days going through the "Upstate NY" census forms. I did not have a birthdate, even AGGGHHHHH I gave up years ago. There is a rumor he ended up in Philadelphia owning a hardware store after 1919 - but no proof. He & "Tibby" had 6 kids Mary K in 1909 Helen Angelia Theresa Rose William E Joseph Aloysious & my mother 8 April 1919 - who always thought her name was FRANCE ETTA JUILA VIRKLER YANKOWSKI After her death my brother got her birth certificate and it stated Julietta Frances ... I'm sure her ashes stirred!!! The family owned 635 E. 117th St. Cleveland until the late 50's - Tibby & Ed bought it c 1911 -12. She died in the house, my mom & a couple siblings were born there. My parents bought it after Aunts Kit & Sis died in mid 50's.

I have tried getting records from St. Aloysious at E. 110th & St. Claire but no success. I cannot imagine a divorce ... Ed converted to marry Tibby she had been in a convent for awhile but changed her mind ???
