I am looking for the ancestors of Robert M. Stothart. Robert was born about 1766 in Dumfries, Midlothian, Scotland. He is married in May 25 1795 in Midlothian, Scotland to Elizabeth Paterson. His marriage might also be recorded as Robert Stoddart

The earliest American record we have of him, are bills of payment in 1797 sent to him or to his customers for payment. the Next is that he and his brother both serve as postmasters in davidson Co. Tennessee. William serves in 1801. Robert serves in 1802. While William moves to Pennsylvania, Robert chooses to stay in Davidson Co., Tennessee in what eventually becomes Nashville. There are several land records in tennessee that are attributed to Robert.
