Berger
Eduard Gottlob Berger was born in Minden, Westfalen, Germany on April 28, 1836.His father was a Prussian officer and Eduard was sent to a cadet institute in Pottsdam and appointed to a military career. However, this gentle and religious young man was not happy in this calling and so he became a tutorin the Evangelical Orphanage in Barmen and then teacher in the girts high school. In 1858 he went to the mission house in Berman to become a missionary. However, some of the young were assigned to the Langenberger Society for the Germans in America. One of them was Eduard. After his ordination, he came to the US in 1864.He immediately joined the Evangelical Synod and took his first charge in Marhtasville, Mo. He first married in 1865, Eugenie von Rague. He and Eugenie had seven children: Edward, Pauline, Laura, Paul, John, Herman, and Frederich.Eugenie died in 1886.In 1887 he married Auguste nee Linden Paulisch who was the widow of Rev. Paulisch. Eduard and Auguste had five children: Hugo, Lydia, Augusta, Eugenia Julia( my Grandmother), and Olivia.Eduard served churches in Marthasville, Augusta, and Carondelet, Mo. and Alhambra and Brighton, Il. Eduard,my Great Grandfather, died on Jan 03, 1906. My Great Grandmother, Auguste, died in 1939. My Grandmother, Eugenia, married Fred G. Scheffel on Sept 03, 1912. They had three children: Elvera, Bellmont(Butch),and Loraine( my Mother).My Grandfather Fred died on Dec 26, 1968 and my Grandmother Eugenia died on Feb 26, 1978. My Mother Loraine who was in the church choir in Brighton married Rev. Herbert Rinderknecht on Jan 21, 1944 in Brighton,Il,in the Evangelical and Reformed Church there where he was the pastor. They had two children: Diane Helen ( me ), and Kenneth. Loraine died on Oct 16, 2004 and Herbert died on Aug 8, 2000. Diane married Charles Presnell on April 02, 1966 in the United Church of Christ in Pana, Il. and they had four children: Mark, Tami, Cory, and Trey.Charles died on Oct. 3, 2004. I am a certified nursing assistant and geriatric care specialist in a nursing home in Pana. I also help my son Mark in our concession trailer and in our Tropical Sno stand.
