I have in my possession the family tree of Johann Theodor Besfereras he signed his name in the first years of his stay in Canada .He was born of German parents but eventually the name changed to besserer.he was a surgeon in a german battalion which came to canada in 1776 under the orders of Barn de Riedesel and after peace obtained his discharged settled down at Chateau Richerthe the to sainte famille on the island of Orleans in Quebecwhere he remained until his death. he died at ste famille in 1803.He was A Calvanist religion and a surgeon. he had married a french canadian and parents of many children ....seven we know of.Louis Theodore was the oldest .he had about 12 children. then george wilbrod besserer the second son no children...jean theodore besserer he died leaving several children many in the usa..another son was rene leonard who died intestate and was owner of Sandy hill in ottawa ..given to him for services rendered .. that is where the whole of the property was given to louis theodore being the oldest of the family and the law of the time was property owned by individual without a will goes to the oldest. etc.. i have the official map here . the University of Ottawa was also sold for a few shilling as long as it remained an education facilities, it was sold to the roman catholic church with had its head office in kingston ont. louis theodore is buried in ottawa in the beechwood cemetery on hemlock road. i also have the court case for the fight for sandy hill.. part of the will [copies]etc etc anyone intersted can reach me at queenyca1@hotmail.com

Johann Theodor Besserer never called himself Besferer. Over 100 years ago the "s" was often written like a backward "f." This strange symbol for "s" was used very commonly in instances where there was a "double s."
