THOMAS WILLIAM BALLANTYNE GIBSON (1872-1953) OF "GLENHOLM", DROMANA VIC., AUST. WHO MARRIED A KIWI.
ANOTHER GIBSON LINK WITH N.Z.
Walter Gibson's brother, John became a Kiwi and recently it was discovered that Walter's son, Water James, (not even listed on page 82 of A DREAMTIME OF DROMANA) had died in N.Z. Tom is listed as the last child of Walter and Margaret and he had probably met his future bride during a visit to the N.Z. branch of the family.

Elizabeth's death notice seems to confirm my belief that Thomas and Elizabeth only had one child. As the funeral parlour was only a Billy Brownless torp from Hughesdale, this has to be Elizabeth, nee Pistoles.

Itellya is researching local history on the Mornington Peninsula and is willing to help family historians with information about the area between Somerville and Blairgowrie. He has extensive information about Henry Gomm of Somerville, Joseph Porta (Victoria's first bellows manufacturer) and Captain Adams of Rosebud.
Comments
In an effort to identify Elizabeth Pistoles' uncle I stumbled on an 1895 article about Elizabeth. She was a daughter of Mrs Quick from her previous marriage to a Roman Catholic (i.e. Pistoles.) A Mr.Lyons was supporting the protestant mother's effort to stop Elizabeth being sent to a convent and might have been her uncle. There is no doubt that the girl was Tom's future wife because of her age and Father Kernan being asked by Mr. Lyons—"How do you know that? Were you in New Zealand at the time ?" after he'd stated that the child "had been brought up in the faith."

This would be Thomas William Ballantyne Gibson's mother in law, the former Mrs Pistoles.
