FRANKLIN William George - NSW 19th century

Journal by Kumul

William George FRANKLIN married Mary OFFER (widow) at Little Billabong New South Wales in 1859. His implied birth year is 1828. It first appeared that Mary might be Mary Maclean, who had previously been married to the late Nathanael Offer.

No parent's names are stated in the civil record of marriage. However, the parish record (St Matthew's Albury) shows "John Hillas" entered as the bride's father. No names were given for Wiliam's parents.

William and Mary's son William George was born in 1860, at Jingellic NSW. Mary's family name is here stated to be Macken (or Mackew?). Another son Charles was born in 1861 and died in 1862.

William George registered the birth on 3 March 1878 of his son Archibald Bowna. Archibald's mother was Mary Jane BENNETT née KENNEDY. William gave his age as 50 and his birthplace as London England. The space for marriage information was left blank.

William George Parker Franklin died at Germanton NSW on 24 April 1907, the informant being his son Wiilam George, 46 years.

William George's age at death was stated to be 79 years (implied yob 1828) and place of birth London. He was said to have been 53 years in NSW and 3 years in Victoria - thus, the implied year of arrival in Australia is 1851. On the death certificate only two children are referred to - William George, 46 years, Living and 1 dead.

Mary Jane BENNETT, née KENNEDY died on 3 June 1913 at Rosewood or Tumbarumba NSW.
