LOOKING FORM 'LOWES' OF NEWCASTLE N.S.W.

Query by patobrien

In 27/1/1880 George LOWES 27 born London, married Ellen JORDAN 24 born Newcastle N.S.W. at Newcastle. They had 5 children, George Henry, 1880, Mary Ann 1882, William & Herbert (twins) 1885, Edward 1888. All born in Newcastle N.S.W.. I am seeking any information whatsoever on these siblings and their descendants. Most grew and lived in Newcastle suburbs of Wickham and Hamilton.

Dear Pat, Hi there. I did a little bit of searching at NSW Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages - Australia for all children with surname LOWES with parents named George and Ellen...

BIRTHS:
George Henry LOWES born 1880 Newcastle NSW
Mary A. LOWES born 1883 Newcastle NSW
William LOWES born 1885 Newcastle NSW
Herbert LOWES born 1885 Newcastle NSW
Edward J. LOWES born 1888 Newcastle NSW

DEATHS:-
William LOWES died 1958 Maitland NSW
George Henry LOWES died 1967 Wallsend NSW
John William LOWES died 1952 Newcastle NSW
Edward J. LOWES died 1919 Hamilton NSW
Thomas LOWES died 1919 Hamilton NSW
Frederick Thomas died 1936 Newcastle NSW

Just going by the deaths, perhaps there were more children than five you have listed born to George and Ellen LOWES after the year 1905. If you register as a new user at RootsChat.com and goto their Emigrants to Australia board and check out the link - births after 1905 to 1918 lookups for NSW.

MARRIAGES:
Mary A. LOWES to Alfred E. WATERMAN 1902 Newcastle NSW.

(NB I found a death for a Mary WATERMAN in 1940 Sydney NSW but her mother's name is listed as 'Alice').

William LOWES married Margaret SHARP 1917 Hamilton NSW

Herbert LOWES - no marriage found NSW
Edward LOWES - no marriage found NSW

When ordering birth, death and marriage certificates, goto Joy Murrin Transcriptions NSW - this service is a bit cheaper than NSW bdms online.

Suggestion, perhaps if you place your family tree on-line say at TribalPages ... it's free, you might increase your chances of being contacted by descendants.

Kind regards,
Alison, QLD, Australia

Thank you Allycat, I have not collated this information yet with my research, but some of it is new to me and will be a big help. Incidentally, I always deal with Joy Murrin. Have found them very helpful. Will take your advice on TribalPages. Luv & kisses, Patrick.

Dear Patrick, You are most welcome. Thank you for your reply. I have my tree on genesreunited myself - only costs me under $20 aussie dollars/year.

This is another website that I like as well if you are starting to collect lots of bdm certs (at your own cost) Certificate Sharing. It's actually an Aussie website, but has certs worldwide - birth, death, marriage and baptism. You are welcome to join up for free and search for certs and/or upload your own. It certainly does increase your chances of being contacted by distant relatives. I'm on there as well 'allycat'. If some of your certs are written in horrid old scrawly handwriting, you can scan the certs in .jpg format and email them to the webmaster to upload. And if you can't read something, then post a journal here and attach your file (if it's not too big).

Alison.
