Laurenson of Tingwall, Shetland, Scotland
Gilbert Laurenson born 10 January 1770 in Tingwall, Shetland, Scotland, married Catherine Omand.
Looking for Gilbert's parents. I don't have much on his father, but his name was James Laurenson born probably about 1740-1750. I have no information on his mother.
Catherine Omand's parents were John Omand and Barbara Clark.
Their descendant James Laurenson (1838-1884) moved to New Zealand and then to Samoa, where he died.
Appreciate any help in locating Gilbert's parents and if he had any siblings.
Thanks for reading,
Sandy

Hi, I am descended from Grace Margaret Laurenson that married James Robertson, both from Shetland and lived in NZ. I have found the website Bayanne on Shetland Families very helpful and reasonably comprehensive as well as the Shetland Times birth, death and marriage indexes you may wish to try. I didn't have any luck with Scotlandspeople on the earlier records, even using the wildcard, obviously not recorded!
