Looking for A.A.LAYTON in Georgia and later in Alabama

Query by pll31

About 1828 in Washington County, Georgia was born Alford Alpha LAYTON.
His parents are unknown but are rumored to have been born in North Carolina. There is no trace of him as yet in that area of Georgia or any known siblings.

Then in the 1850 census there is a Alfred Laython, age 22 in Muscogee County, Georgia. This may be him but so far I have not proven this. Through the years later, there have been documents with his first name spelled Alfred. At this time in Muscogee, Georgia he was living with a free black and his wife and child by the name of Rueben Brookin.

Back in Washington County Georgia there was a major slave owner by the name of Benjamin Brookins. As I am sure you know that many slaves took their owners last name. Coincidence?
