Looking for COLEMAN BELBIN of South Australia
Hi folks,
Currently looking for the background of an Eliza Elizabeth COLEMAN, who married a Charles Henry BELBIN, who was born in Tasmania (I think).
Eliza was not born a COLEMAN, she had been married before, I believe to a Joseph COLEMAN, however that is what I am attempting to work on, I have very weak information pointing to her being a SHAW, but that is far from being proved.
I am hoping that someone on this board may be able to point me in the right direction, or even let me know what is correct.
Any assistance is helpful, Regards, Bob
PS... ALL THIS OCCURED IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA...Sorry :)

I'm sorry I meant her first husband, :(
Thankyou, Bob
Eliza gave her status as Widow when she married Charles BELBIN in 1884. The only death I can find for a Joseph COLEMAN before 1884 is this one.
Name: Joseph COLEMAN.
Died: 04 March 1880, Adelaide, South Australia.
Age: 60 years.
Status: Not recorded.
Residence: Port Adelaide, South Australia.
Ref: Registry of Deaths, South Australia. Book 101 Page 144.
Also found these two births with parents named as Joseph COLEMAN and Eliza SHAW.
Name: Flora Eliza COLEMAN.
Born: 08 August 1877, Glanville, South Australia.
Ref: Registry of Births, South Australia. Book 188 Page 50.
Name: Edith Eddy COLEMAN.
Born: 05 February 1880, Adelaide, South Australia.
Ref: Registry of Births, South Australia. Book 234 Page 169.
Looking at these details we can see that Joseph would have been 60 years old when there last child Edith was born in 1880, and Eliza would have been about 28 years old. It appears to be a very large age gap so it's possible this Joseph COLEMAN and Eliza SHAW may not be the ones you seek.
What do you think?
I think that this is indeed the husband of Eliza Elizabeth Shaw, I have been able to trace his 1st wife, (Letitia) who died in 1872, and buried in the Alberton Cemetery, SA.
Joseph himself is himself buried in the Alberton Cemetery, on 5 Mar 1880. It is stated that only a few people were at his graveside, and it was stated that helped develop the shipping route between Melbourne and Port Adelaide.
There is no mention of his relationship with Eliza, however I think it is noteworthy to know that he died in the residence of a Mr. Shaw. :)
