Looking for ROUTLEDGE of Cumberland UK and MCDERMOTT of Ireland

I live in Melbourne and am researching two lines. My father's ROUTLEDGE and my mother's MCDERMOTT. Dad came out from Liverpool in 1913. His ancestors were from Cumberland. Mum's grandfather was James McDermott who came out from Ireland, after three years in England, in 1863 with his wife Eliza or Elizabeth McDermott nee MAHER.
Dad was an only child but came from a large family. Mum was also an only child. Her mother was Annie Schieblich who married by grandfather John Joseph McDermott in the late 1800's. I have a sister b.1927. I was born 1934. So not much more time to find out more for my grandkids and hers.

jrown34 on 2012-04-10 21:39:26Dad was born in Liverpoolon 12.11.1899 and his Christian name was William, the same as his father's. His grandfather's name was Joseph Routledge.
SilverVixen on 2012-04-12 10:25:06Mr Wm Routledge sailed from London on 26 September 1913 to Freemantle on the OSTERLEY, he was an unaccompanied male, shows no age or year of birth. I would question the fact that he was born in 1899 and sailed alone in 1913, that would make him only 14. I cannot find a William, only child, father William born in 1899, this does not mean it is wrong just that I cannot find records. Routledge certainly seems to be aCumberland surname. Can you give me any more information?

Emily and William Jnr came to Melbourne on 'Hawkes Bay' in 1913. Julia Bowman who was, I think, Emily's sister sailed with them. Dad always called her Auntie Lou. The Wm Routledge you mention Ihope is my grandfather following my grandmother and father out here to Melbourne. It is a long way from Fremantle to Melbourne, and I haven't found him continuing on to Melbourne or on another Coastal Vessel. On checking my records, I have Wm R. Snr. b.1879 West Derby UK 8b638 d. 8.8.1919 Melbourne Cert. 2437 10857. Wm R.Jnr. b.12.11.1900 (I misled you there) b. West Derby Liverpool Ref 8b655 b.3/1900
He died on 29.7.1975 in Mt Eliza Melbourne Reg. No. 19570/75 where he lived with me and my family.
